For a number of years I “hung about” the German Spitz crowd-dividing my time at the shows between Jap Spitz, Junior Handling and German Spitz rings.
It was at BUBA many years ago that I was introduced to Bob Smart and Bob and I have remained firm friends since.
Much welcome to the breed was extended to us also, by Bill and the late Pat McBain. Bill and Pat were excellent hosts and always had the kettle boiling for that much needed cup of tea first thing in the morning before a long day showing.
After a long day showing (and often Bill would have done some stewarding too) Bill would get his apron on and take control of the barbeque. Good food and wine - we usually ended up with quite a crowd not just spitz people and that was how we met Anne Kennedy and Peter Clifton and many of their "Boston" and "Cardigan Corgi" friends.
We went as a group to some foreign shows-not with the dogs -just for short breaks. I remember one visit when Bill almost got wedged in on the stairway to his room. It was one of those narrow and steep staircases, typical of the Amsterdam town houses so many of which have been turned into B & B's to cater for the mass of tourists that visit the city. On our return visits to Amsterdam, Bill always requested a ground floor room so that he be sure to make it back home! Below is Ch. Willmac Happy-Go-Lucky bred by Bill and Rikarlo The Brown Bear bred by Lorraine and the llate Moira Smart, owned by Bill and the late Pat McBain.
